The Original Club was founded in 1948 by Ray Slattery, who had served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. For over 70 years, the space served as a gathering spot for officers discharged from the military and was home to the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans Taurus Unit 298 (most commonly referred to as the Taurus Club), which was officially sanctioned at 3917 Main St. on May 5, 1948
The Taurus Club closed in 2019, but local hospitality industry professional and longtime patron Simon Fallick saw this as an opportunity to keep the spirit of the legion alive whilst developing the space into a modernized, community pub. Extensive renovations have uncovered irreplaceable memorabilia left behind from the Taurus Club years, all of which is now proudly on display throughout the space alongside memorabilia sourced from the Canadian Military Archives.
The Army, Navy & Air Force (ANAF) Veterans in Canada is the oldest veteran and community service organization in Canada. Established initially as a meeting place for Army veterans who were at the end of their tours and were home to protect the colonies, the organization grew to include both the Navy and Air Force by the end of the Second World War. The Taurus Club Unit 298 was officially sanctioned at 3917 Main St. on May 5, 1948.
